Exploring the Experiences and Well-Being of Australian Rio Olympians During the Post-Olympic Phase: A Qualitative Study

Research about the Olympic Games has primarily focused on preparing athletes for competition. Less attention been paid to post-Olympic-phase (POP) and athlete well-being during this time. This study explored Australian athletes’ experiences following conclusion of 2016 Rio Games, including factors that may have contributed or challenged their Eighteen participated in semi-structured interviews thematic analysis revealed when performance appraisal met prior expectations, planned a return work study, support from variety sources was readily available, positively influenced POP.
